ABOUT ABEDI PELE

Former midfielder who served as captain of the Ghanian national team and starred in France's Ligue 1.

He moved to Qatar after representing Ghana in the 1982 African Cup of Nations.

He was one of the first African-born players to rise to prominence in the European leagues.

He had three sons who also played on the Ghanian national team.

He and Emmanuel Frimpong both represented Ghana in international play.
