ABOUT ALEXANDER COCHRANE
Scottish military commander known for serving the United Kingdom's army during the American War of Independence, Napoleonic Wars, and the War of 1812. In 1806, he was knighted into the Order of the Bath and continued to earn commanding ranks for the rest of his career.
He became a member of the Royal Navy at a young age. One of his early career feats took place when the British navy led operations in Egypt in 1801.
Admiral Rock, which is a community in Nova Scotia, Canada, is named after him.
His father was Thomas Cochrane, the eighth Earl of Dundonald. He married Martha Shaw in 1788, and they had three sons and two daughters.
He led an unsuccessful mission against Fort McHenry, named after James McHenry , in Baltimore Maryland.
