ABOUT ALEXANDER I OF RUSSIA
Emperor of Russia best recognized for alternately fighting and befriending Napoleon Bonaparte during the Napoleonic Wars, but who ultimately helped form the coalition that defeated the emperor of the French.
He got married when he was just 15 years old. He received his military training under the direction officer Aleksey Arakcheyev.
He was the grand duke of Finland from 1809 until his death in 1825. Alexander became Emperor of Russia when his father was assassinated on March 23, 1801. Called an autocrat and "Jacobin," a man of the world and a mystic, Alexander appeared to his contemporaries as a riddle which each read according to his own temperament.
He was the first child of Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich and Grand Duchess Maria Fyodorovna. He was married to Elizabeth Alexeievna.
His grandmother was empress Catherine the Great .
