ABOUT ALEXANDER PRIOR

Composer and conductor known for works such as Velesslavitsa, The Desert, and Mowgli. From 2007 to 2012, he worked as the chief conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Singers, among other orchestras and musical ensembles.

He attended Saint Petersburg Conservatory.

He is a winner of the International Prokofiev Composition Competition. His ballet, Mowgli, is based on Rudyard Kipling 's The Jungle Book. At the age of 16, he won 2nd prize at the Leeds conducting competition.

His mother is Russian and his father is British.

He has conducted music by Nikolai Rimsky-korsakov .
