African-American Expressionist painter who exhibited her works at major American museums and universities. Known for "Sky Light," "The Eclipse," and many others.
She taught kindergarten for seven years before pursuing a full-time artistic career.
She was inspired by the natural world and painted in the vivid style of the Washington Color School.
She grew up in an affluent household and attended Howard University and Columbia University.
Her print "Watusi (Hard Edge)" was chosen by First Lady Michelle Obama to hang in the White House in 2009.
