Hungarian-born pianist who relocated to America. He was known for his mastery of Viennese classical composers.
He was a student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he was trained by Erno Dohnanyi .
He was dubbed the Commandeur du Mérite Artistique et Culturel in 1968 by France in honor of his mastery of Claude Debussy .
He began his piano studies with his mother Valerie Ipolye.
His vast repertoire leaned heavily on the works of Bela Bartok , and he handled the New York premiere of the composer's Second Piano Concerto in 1947 at Carnegie Hall.
