Antonio Ledezma

ABOUT ANTONIO LEDEZMA

Venezuelan lawyer, politician, and former detainee who was held on political grounds. He served as the Mayor of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, from 2008 to 2015. He was elected as a member of the opposition party Primero Justicia (Justice First). Throughout his tenure as mayor, he advocated for democracy, human rights, and the improvement of living conditions in Caracas.

Having been engaged in politics in his native state of Guárico during the 1970s, he later secured two terms in the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies starting in 1984.

He has consistently opposed the socialist policies of the government and has been involved in various protests and demonstrations against the regime.

He is from San Juan de los Morros, Guárico, Venezuela. He married Mitzy Capriles. He has three daughters and one son.

He was an outspoken critic of the Venezuelan government, particularly under the presidency of Hugo Chávez .
