Double-bassist who recorded with many seminal jazz musicians over the course of his life.
He attended the Julliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and Hunter College.
He is responsible for the system of blind auditions used for orchestras.
He raised a daughter and two sons.
He worked alongside John Coltrane , Dizzy Gillespie , Thelonious Monk and many other jazz icons.
