ABOUT BARBARA SHEARER

Pianist and pedagogue known for her mastery of Romantic-era composers.

She began her education at Carthage College and completed it at Wittenberg University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in music.

She began teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1978, where she remained for the rest of her career.

She wed Allen Shearer in 1964, a composer, singer, and frequent collaborator.

She was particularly skilled in Robert Schumann 's music and was noted for the warmth and clarity she brought to it.
