He attended the University of Arizona , where he played for the Arizona Wildcats. He was named a Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2021.

He is of Haitian descent and speaks four languages: English, French, Spanish, and Creole. In 2022, he received the Pac-12 Player of the Year award.

He was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. His parents are Elvie Jeune and Felix Mathurin. He has an older sister named Jennifer, who also played basketball in college.

He and Shaedon Sharpe were the only Canadians drafted in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft.
