ABOUT BERNARD WILLIAMS

English moral philosopher who developed the ideas internal v. external reasons for action and moral luck.

He studied at Balliol College, Oxford, from which he graduated in 1951. He served for a year in the Royal Air Force stationed in Canada where he flew Spitfires.

He served on several royal commissions and government committees.

He was married to Shirley Brittain Catlin.

He was influenced by Friedrich Nietzsche .
