Bill de Blasio

ABOUT BILL DE BLASIO

American politician who served as New York City Public Advocate from 2010 to 2013 and was elected Mayor of New York in 2013. He served as Mayor from 2014 until 2019. His tenure was marked by substantial reform in the public education and police sectors of the city.

He attended New York University to study metropolitan studies. He also attended Columbia University for his Master's of International Affairs.

He was the first democratic mayor of New York in twenty years.

He married Chirlane McCray in 1994, and they had two children. His parents both worked for the government, and during their service were questioned for alleged Communist sympathies during the McCarthy era.

He took over for Michael Bloomberg as Mayor of New York.
