Irish politician who served in both the lower and upper houses of the Irish Parliament between 1969 and 1974.

He became a Fine Gael party councilman for Ireland's County Monaghan in 1967.

He was assassinated in 1974, and members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army were charged with the crime.

He was engaged to a woman from County Monaghan at the time of his death.

Another Irish politician, Michael Higgins , served in Parliament for twenty-four years before becoming the Irish President in 2011.
