Produced Stop! In the Name of Love, How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You), Baby Love, and countless other Motown songs.
He started out as a lead vocalist with The Satintones.
He and Holland–Dozier–Holland were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
He grew up in Detroit with an older brother named Eddie.
He co-wrote songs for Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye as part of the songwriting and production team Holland-Dozier-Holland.
