NASCAR driver spent 15 years in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Cup series, finishing more than 30 races in the Top Ten.

His grandfather dubbed him 'buckshot' after Jones ran smack into a table and apparently didn't feel a thing.

After a disappointing rookie season with his own Buckshot Racing team, he hired the son of the legendary David Pearson as his crew chief, and began winning races - while also gathering a reputation for being an aggressive, crash-causing driver.

He was born in Monticello, Georgia, joining the stock car circuit at the suggestion of his father, who thought that would be safer than Buckshot's other choice, motocross.

He had a longstanding feud with fellow racer Randy LaJoie .
