Indian writer and director who won the National Film Award for Best Director twice: for Uttara in 2000 and Swapner Din in 2005.
He was an Economics teacher at the Shyamsundar College of the University of Burdwan.
His five films--Bagh Bahadur, Charachar, Lal Darja, Mondo Meyer Upakhyan, and Kaalpurush--won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
His father Tarkanta Dasgupta was a doctor with the Indian Railway.
His early films were inspired by the realism found in the films of Satyajit Ray .
