ABOUT CHARLIE POWELL
Former NFL player who played defensive end in the league for five seasons between 1952 and 1961. He also spent time playing minor league baseball and had 39 professional fights as a boxer.
After excelling at four sports in high school, he had offers from college football programs and the Harlem Globetrotters, but played minor league baseball instead.
After one season in the minors, he started his NFL career. Nineteen years old at the time, he was the youngest person to ever play in the league.
His brother was AFL and NFL standout Art Powell .
Over the course of his boxing career, he fought both Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali . He was beaten by both.
