Jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and actor who was instrumental in the revival of traditional jazz in the 1960s.
He was a professional jazz piano player by the time he was 14 and was performing with the likes of Lionel Hampton , Roy Eldridge , and Kenny Clarke .
He would frequently collaborate with classical musicians, such as the Baroque-swing album Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio with Jean-Pierre Rampal.
He was a child prodigy, and his family ensured that he cultivated his talents, enrolling him at the Nice Conservatory early on.
He was close friends with Oscar Peterson .
