Former NASCAR whose career lasted more than five decades. He retired having driven in the second most races of any driver ever with 883.
He was born in Wausau, Wisconsin and participated in his first NASCAR race in 1968.
He became famous for his wingtip shoes, which he wore during races so as to absorb heat from within the car.
He married a woman named Helen.
He was replaced by Dale Earnhardt on the Osterland Racing team in 1978.
