ABOUT DESMOND CAHILL

Irish sportscaster widely known for presenting RTÉ television's The Sunday Game and Saturday Sport. He was named Ireland's most most influential journalist on Twitter in 2015 and 2016.

He left his journalism studies in Rathmines in the 1970's to accept a full-time newspaper reporting job. He first joined RTÉ as an on-air journalist in 1984.

He won the 2007 PPI sports presenter of the year award. He has also co-presented the Irish sport TV series The Road to Croker, Play It Again, Des, and Up for the Match.

His wife's name is Caroline.

He co-hosted the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games opening ceremony alongside Ian Dempsey .
