ABOUT DIANE SAWYER

TV journalist who was the lead anchor for ABC World News and a co-anchor on Good Morning America. She was also an original host on ABC's news magazine show Primetime alongside Sam Donaldson .

As a senior in high school, she represented the state of Kentucky at America's Junior Miss scholarship pageant and took first prize. She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wellesley College and briefly attended law school at the University of Louisville before concentrating on journalism.

From 1974 to 1978, she served as a literary assistant to U.S. President Richard Nixon .

She was married to movie director Mike Nichols from 1988 until his death in 2014. Her mother, Jean, was an elementary school teacher and her father, Tom, was a judge.

She and Charles Gibson were co-anchors on ABC's Good Morning America from 1999 to 2006.
