He studied at Rome's Conservatory when he was 14 and took Alfred Cortot 's advanced courses from 1958 until 1962.
His career was jumpstarted when he came in second at Budapest's 1961 Liszt-Bartók Competition.
He was born in modern-day Rijeka, which was known as Fiume at the time.
His life may have been short, but his repertoire was vast and all-encompassing. Even at his young age, he had mastered every one of Ludwig van Beethoven 's sonatas.
