Former college basketball star and NBA player known affectionately as "Pearl," a direct comparison to Earl "The Pearl" Monroe . He was a three-time All-American at Syracuse and was an original member of the expansion Miami Heat.
He starred at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, where he became one of the highest-rated players in the country.
His seminal moment came during a game in his sophomore year with Syracuse against Boston College, when he hit a game-winning half-court shot to beat the Eagles.
He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2015 and passed away on April 20, 2016.
Jim Boeheim has credited Pearl for being one of the key figures in making Syracuse one of the premier programs in college basketball.
