Popular jazz artist in the 1940s who also had comebacks in the fifties, sixties, and eighties. He composed Canadian Sunset in 1956.
He performed with the great jazz artists of the 1930s, including Wayman Carver, Clarence Love, and Benny Carter .
His version of Begin the Beguine was a 1944 hit and kicked off three of the most successful years of his career.
His father Eddie Heywood Sr., also a jazz musician, began training him when he was 12.
He performed back-up for Billie Holiday in 1941.
