ABOUT EDGAR HOVHANNISYAN
Important 20th-century Armenian composer who wrote choral-orchestral works, as well as music for ballet, opera, and film. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1979.
He trained at the Yerevan State Conservatory and at the Moscow Conservatory.
He served as director of the State Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan during the 1960s.
He was born in the Armenian capital of Yerevan and lived and worked there for most of his life.
He and Benjamin Britten were both influential classical composers of the 20th Century.
