J.R.R. Tolkien 's wife and muse who inspired his Lúthien Tinúviel and Arwen Evenstar characters from Lord of the Rings.

She met Tolkien at a boarding house, where she went after the death of her mother.

She was 19 when she met Tolkien, and he was 16.

A written declaration of love from Tolkien persuaded her to break off her engagement to another man and marry him. She had four children, Christopher , Michael, John, and Priscilla.

She was jealous of her husband's close friendship with author C.S. Lewis .
