Edward Asscher

ABOUT EDWARD ASSCHER

Dutch politician who served in the Senate of the States-General. He represented the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. In June of 2020, he was chosen to be the President of the World Diamond Council, which works to keep conflict diamonds out of the world's sellable diamond supply.

He received a degree in economics at the University of Groningen. In 1975, he became the president of the family business Koninklijke Asscher Diamant Maatschappij in Amsterdam.

He has served as the chairman of the JOVD in Groningen. He also served as the chairman of the VVD chamber circle in Amsterdam.

His grandfather was Dutch politician, Abraham Asscher. He is married and has three children. His children are involved in the family's diamond business.

Lodewijk Asscher is his nephew.
