ABOUT EDWARD BURTYNSKY

Canadian photographer known for his industrial landscape photography. His work tends to be aimed at provoking reflection on the impact of human technological and economic advancement upon the health of the natural environment. Together with filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal, he directed the 2012 documentary Watermark, which was named Best Feature Length Documentary at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.

He studied graphic design at Niagara College, as well as photography at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.

He has earned numerous awards and honors including the Insight + Impact Award from the Garrison Institute and the Gold Medal of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society. He shares examples of his photography on his edwardburtynsky Instagram account.

His father Peter Burtynsky immigrated from Ukraine to Canada.
