He started his career with Formula One in 1981.
He hosted a Chilean version of the TV show Funniest Home Videos during a period when he was not racing.
His son was born in 2001 and attended his first Indy 500 when he was eight days old.
He raced for AJ Foyt Enterprises in 2000.
