Married actor Paul Michael Glaser and started a foundation to combat the spread of AIDS.

She was infected with HIV via a contaminated needle during a hospital blood transfusion.

She co-founded the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation to raise awareness of the spread of the disease from mother to child.

Her husband was Paul Michael Glaser , Detective Starsky from from Starsky and Hutch.

Singer Sarah McLachlan has also been a big advocate of AIDS awareness programs.
