She graduated from the University of Missouri with a journalism degree.

A highlight of her career was winning an Emmy Award in 1999 for reporting on Elian Gonzalez .

She has two children with her husband.

She is the second female journalist to anchor a network evening newscast in the nation; the first was Connie Chung .
