ABOUT EMIL NEWMAN
Worked on more than 200 films and TV shows. He was nominated for an Academy Award for "Sun Valley Serenade" from 1941.
He conducted the score for the Academy Award-winning film "The Best Years of Our Lives" from 1946 starring Myrna Loy and Fredric March .
He was incredibly prolific, serving as musical director on 13 1940 films, 25 1941 films, 28 1942 films, and 15 1943 films. This pace continued for the duration of the 1940s. The 1950s saw him focus on low-budget B movies as he transitioned into television.
He looked up to his older brother Alfred Newman , who was a piano prodigy and already working in the film industry. He fathered two children with his wife Eva May Hoffman.
He was the uncle of fellow composer Randy Newman .
