ABOUT ERNST LEVY

Described as an "unusual and powerful pianist" with "grandly conceived" interpretations of Beethoven's works.

He was taught by classical pianist Egon Petri and French composer Raoul Pugno.

He came to the United States to teach. He held positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Chicago, and the New England Conservatory.

He fathered future composer and cellist Frank Ezra Levy, who was born in 1930.

He was said to have realized "the very essence of the Faustian" Franz Liszt by music expert David Dubal.
