ABOUT FéLIX TSHISEKEDI

Congolese politician who took office as the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in January 2019. He is also the leader of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress. His Facebook account has gained over 250,000 followers.

When his father created the UDPS in the early 1980s, publicly opposing Mobutu Sese Seko , he was forced to accompany him into house arrest in his native village in central Kasaï. This made him put his studies on hold.

He promised to end and reverse deforestation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by 2030, in the COP26 climate summit's first major agreement.

His parents are Étienne Tshisekedi and Marthe Kasalu Jibikila. He is married to Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi.

Joseph Kabila was the president before him.
