
ABOUT FRANJO TUđMAN
Croatian politician who founded the Croatian Democratic Union and served as the first president of Croatia from 1990 to 1999.
He was a member of the Croatian Peasant Party and later the communist party in his youth.
He served two years in prison for involvement in suspicious activity during the Croatian Spring in 1971.
He married Ankica Tuđman, with whom he had three children.
Stjepan Mesic served as Prime Minister under him and was later elected the second president of Croatia.
