ABOUT FRED TUTTLE
Retired dairy farmer who became a popular Senate candidate in Vermont in 1998 but ultimately lost after endorsing his opponent. He appeared in the films Nosey Parker and Man with a Plan.
He entered the political race in a publicity stunt, as part of the 1996 film Man With a Plan, created by his next-door-neighbor.
He surprised nearly everyone - most of all himself - by winning the Republican primary, helped along by clever slogans like 'I've spent my whole life in the barn - now I want to spend a little time in the House.'
He grew up in Tunbridge, Vermont.
Like him Ethan Allen was another Vermont politician who helped the formation of the state.
