ABOUT FRIEDRICH GULDA
Classical and jazz musician known for his mastery of Mozart and Beethoven. He died as he had wished: on Mozart's birthday.
He began studying at the Vienna Music Academy in 1942 where he was taught by Bruno Seidlhofer and Joseph Marx.
He founded the International Musikforum, a school for those wishing to study improvisation.
He had two marriages, one to Paola Loew and the other to Yuko Wakiyama. He had three sons, two of whom became respected pianists.
He partnered with fellow jazz musician Chick Corea in 1982.
