He graduated from the University of Kent with a degree in literature.

He began his journalism career with The Belfast Telegraph.

After leaving Patricia Warner, his wife of nearly three decades, he began a relationship with musician Anna Phoebe.

He interviewed numerous political figures and celebrities, including Bill Clinton and Angelina Jolie .
