ABOUT GAVIN MCKENNA
Hockey player and athlete for the Medicine Hat Tigers. He played for the Canadian National Team at both the the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2024 IIHF World U18 Championships, in which he set a new Canadian record for most points at a single U18 tournament.
His father constructed an outdoor rink for him to practice every winter.
He was the first Yukon-born player to be drafted first overall in the Western Hockey League. At the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, McKenna scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Sweden to clinch a sweep of the preliminary round.
He is a member of the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin First Nation. His parents both played hockey.
He is a cousin-by-marriage of fellow hockey player Connor Bedard .
