ABOUT GENE SCHEER
Opera composer and lyricist known for his compositions for such singers as Sylvia McNair, Renée Fleming, and Denyce Lawton . He collaborated with numerous other composers on such operatic pieces as To Hell and Back and Cold Mountain.
After graduating from the renowned Eastman School of Music, he earned music fellowships to attend both the University of Cologne and the Hochschule Für Musik.
He collaborated with composer Tobias Picker on the opera Thérèse Raquin.
He was born and raised in New York City.
He collaborated with opera composer Jake Heggie on several projects, including Moby-Dick (for the Dallas Opera) and Last Acts (for the Houston Grand Opera).
