ABOUT GEORGE WINSTON
Pianist famous for his songs that stylistically ranged from rural folk to New Orleans R&B. Popular songs of his include "Thanksgiving," "Variations on the Kanon," and "Joy." He produced records for several Hawaiian slack-key guitarists, such as Keola Beamer and Ray Kane. He released over 15 studio albums throughout his lengthy career.
He released his debut album Piano Solos in 1973.
His 15th album consisted of cover songs by influential artists like Sam Cooke , The Doors , Stephen Stills , and Country Joe McDonald . He performed a tribute set to celebrate the work of Vince Guaraldi at the 2019 American Eagle Award Honor ceremony. He ran a record label called Dancing Cat Records.
He was born in Michigan.
Fats Waller served as one of his main influences as a young player.
