He moved to Los Angeles with his family at a young age and began working in the publicity department at Warner Brothers.
He had 16 Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and won it for Casablanca in 1943.
He married Martha Hyer in 1951.
He worked on the original True Grit with John Wayne .
