ABOUT HETTY BOWER
Political activist who operated a hostel for Czechoslovakian refugees during World War II and later became a key figure in the establishment of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
When she was seventeen years old, she became a member of the Labour Party and quickly became involved in the 1926 General Strike and in the 1936 Battle of Cable Street.
She was close with one-time Labour Party leader Ed Miliband .
Her sister, Cissie Rimel, convinced her to run for office.
She and author Carmen Rodriguez were fellow political activists.
