Jazz bassist and 1950s bandleader of the Lighthouse All-Stars. He performed with such jazz greats as Chet Baker , Miles Davis , and Art Pepper .
He played with Stan Kenton's first band before taking a hiatus from music.
He owned a club called Concerts by the Sea from 1971 to 1985.
He and his wife once lived in Hermosa Beach, California.
He collaborated with jazz drummer Max Roach .
