Prominent scholar of religious studies and author of 13 books on religion and philosophy. His most popular title, World's Religions, is considered a classic introduction to comparative religion and has sold over three million copies. He held teaching positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Syracuse University , and UC Berkeley .
He attended the University of Chicago , where he graduated in 1945 with a PhD in Philosophy.
He was highly influenced by Aldous Huxley .
He was born in China to a Methodist missionary family. His first language was Mandarin Chinese.
He participated in Timothy Leary 's psychedelic experiments.
