ABOUT ISMAIL MARZUKI
Composer best known for the countless patriotic songs he wrote for his home country of Indonesia. Among these were famous tracks "Gugur Bunga" and "Rayuan Pulau Kelapa." It is claimed that he wrote up to 240 songs between 1931 and 1958.
In the mid-1930s, he began his music career by becoming a member of the Lief Java Orchestra.
He played piano, saxophone, guitar, accordion, harmonium, and also sang. He was declared a National Hero of Indonesia in 2004.
He had a wife named Eulis. They had one child together.
In August of 1961, he received a Wijaya Kusuma Award from President Suharto .
