He had roles on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris and the sketch show Saturday Night Live, where he was also briefly a writer.
He became a panelist on MTV2's Hip Hop Squares.
Born Jerry Brooks, he had one daughter with wife Shahidah Omar.
He appeared alongside Steve Carrell in Date Night.
