Wife of the music executive and film producer Clarence Avant . She was fatally shot during a home invasion of their Beverly Hills residence in December 2021.
She was a philanthropist. She was president of the group Neighbors of Watts and served as the chairwoman of membership for the group in 1974.
She was on the board of directors of the International Student Center at UCLA
She was born in Jamaica, Queens. She and Clarence Avant were married in 1967. They had one daughter, Nicole Avant, who was an ambassador to Barbados during the Obama Administration. They had a son named Alexander Du Bois Avant.
Her daughter is married to Ted Sarandos , an executive at Netflix.
