During his freshman year of college at Oregon State, he was named Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year.

In 2010, he was named an AP First Team All-American.

He was born in Richmond, Texas. He is married to his partner Samantha. The couple has 3 children together.

He began his career as the backup to Michael Turner on the Atlanta Falcons.
