Actress who appeared on the TV series A Different World before starring in blockbuster films such as The Nutty Professor and The Matrix . As a voice actor, she starred in the Madagascar film franchise. She also plays the villain Fish Mooney in the FOX drama series Gotham and she was cast in the 2015 film Magic Mike XXL .

In 1989, she graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts, majoring in Theater and Dance. Tupac Shakur attended the school with her.

In 2004, she starred in Collateral with Tom Cruise , who later recruited her into the Church of Scientology. She also became a Red Table Talk presenter with her daughter.

She married Will Smith in December of 1997, and the couple had two children together: Jaden and Willow . Trey Smith is her stepson. In 2023, she and Will revealed that they had been separated since 2016.

Her son, Jaden Smith , burst onto the scene in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness alongside Will Smith.
